Dear Dr. Banks, I would like for you to supervise my PhD. I took Computer Graphics from you last fall and am currently in your Visualization class. I double-majored in Math and CS, so my math skills are pretty strong. I attended the ACM SIGGRAPH conference last summer, the IEEE Visualization conference last fall, and will attend OOPSLA in Tampa next week. My C++ programming is pretty good, and I've installed Open Inventor on my linux machine at home. I am available to work on your Illumination of Isosurfaces grant (I've written a ray-caster for volume data) or on your Brain Imaging project (I've installed FlatKit on my machine at home and generated some textures). I think I'd like to choose a topic in the area of photon mapping (like what Jensen does at Stanford -- his images are amazing), or maybe something where randomness is the basic process in image synthesis (like what Shirley does at Utah). Please let me know a time when we can talk.
