Dr. Mike Burmester earned his BSc from Athens University and his PhD from Rome University. After serving as a lecturer and reader and at Royal Holloway, London University, he joined the Computer Science faculty at Florida State University as a Professor in 2000. Dr. Burmester has participated in numerous keynote and international lectures and seminars as well as receiving grant awards in the total amount of 2.2 million dollars. He has served as Editor for several international journals and participated in numerous panels and committees including EuropePKI 2005, CNIS 2005, ACISP 2005, EC-Web 2005, the National Science Foundation, and the 8th Annual Florida Communications Symposium. In 2003, Dr. Burmester was the Chair of the International Conference on Practice and Theory in Public Key Cryptography and the Workshop on Critical Infrastructure Protection at FSU and Co-Chair for the Workshop on Security and Assurance in Ad Hoc networks in Orlando.

Research

Dr. Burmester's current research interests involve cryptography, information security, network security, privacy and watermarking, Public Key Infrastructures, with more than 100 publications in these areas. He is a Fellow of the IMA and a co-director of the Security and Assurance in Information Technology (SAIT) Laboratory at Florida State University.
